Kindness Counts

Kindness counts. We can teach kindness by being clear about our values and modeling kindness in action with our children, students, and clients.

Kindness is the heart of Learn Play Grow. Empowering children and families to feel connected to each other and learn through play is kindness. Empowering teachers to understand and build on their strengths so their students and teaching teams succeed is kindness. Empowering therapists to impact clients’ lives beyond the clinic through collaboration is kindness.

Kindness is the heart of my family, too. My nieces, nephews, and I like to learn, play, and grow in the community on “auntie adventures” including shopping for items to donate to the Houston Food Bank.

We practiced kindness and many other skills because Auntie Rebecca finds learning opportunities everywhere! We practiced perspective-taking and empathy. We decided to share some of our favorite foods with people who did not have any so they would feel special . We practiced negotiation, team work, and executive functioning skills creating a shopping list. We had a real world science lesson learning about ingredients and prioritizing healthy and nonperishable foods. We practiced addition, subtraction, and comparing unit prices using a budget. We learned about bargains and how to think critically about amounts and prices. We practiced compromise and motor skills taking turns navigating the aisles pushing the cart. It was so sweet to see their kindness in action helping each other when the cart was full and very heavy. We practiced patience waiting in line and responsibility unloading the cart and packing the bags. Who knew grocery shopping was such a learning experience!
