Moving Wisdom

I’m moving! After years of thinking, I am taking action!

For years, I have thought about having more space, but I convinced myself I did not want it. Owning our wanting means we are accountable for (in)action.

Instead, I told myself I was not worthy of spending the money or taking up more space in the world. Have you ever told yourself such things?

This is a pattern I see in my life and in the lives of the parents and teachers I support. Instead of addressing an issue, be it boundaries in relationships, children’s behavior, or a learner’s unique development, we try to avoid or ignore it. Am I right?

Maybe you try a strategy or two a few times and wonder why it doesn’t work. Even the best strategies won’t work if you don’t yet have the confidence and support to see them through.

Mindset matters. Confidence comes from action. Seeking support is strength.

You are worthy of support. You deserve to feel confident as a parent and empowered as an educator. That comes from taking one small action at a time…like asking for the support you deserve.

For me, that action is moving. I’m claiming my space and giving myself room to grow. And I am learning so much along the way!

Stay tuned to the Learn Play Grow blog for more wisdom in moving, including how to use structured choice with people of all ages, especially at IKEA, and how to let it be good enough.

In the meantime, here are some mindset resources to inspire you:

The podcast We Can Do Hard Things with Glennon Doyle is one of my favorites, and it’s theme song sung by her daughter has become my anthem!

The book Trust Yourself by Melody Wilding, LMSW, is amazing! This book helped me own my strengths as a Sensitive Striver. The relatable stories, thought-provoking exercises, and actionable strategies are very empowering!

The Gutsy Boss podcast with mindset coach Becky Mollenkamp is full of nuggets of real world wisdom! I loved her episode on 5 mindset lessons from a coach: You are not broken. Your thoughts are not trash. Life is not black and white. Be kind to yourself. It’s ok to change. This episode was really inspiring!

Parents and teachers will love Becky’s episode on 5 mindset lessons from kids: Feel it all, and feel it big! You can feel more than one feeling at a time. Failure isn’t fatal. Asking for help is smart. It’s ok to need people. I laughed out loud, and my heart sang, listening to this true wisdom!
