Teach Like a Rock Star

The meaning of “school” and the debate about returning to it in person are challenging our community to reimagine education. Learn Play Grow is reimagining education to empower families, teachers, and therapists to help young children with diverse abilities achieve success outside the box. Hal Bowman, creator of Teach Like a Rock Star and Be The One, is reimagining “school” and how we can show up to help our children and students grow up. Here’s what I learned during Hal’s electrifying Change a Kid’s Life virtual professional development last week:

Hal gets to the heart of the matter: What do we truly want for our children and students? Our vision is so much bigger than classrooms and curriculum. It’s about cultivating citizens of the world! If we are to reimagine education, and we must, we have to embody leadership.

Change a Kid’s Life helped me redefine educational leadership. It’s about cultivating loving and lit up lifelong learners. Leadership is about being engaged and empathetic and ambitious, accepting, and authentic. It’s about inspiring dynamism, determination, and daring. Leadership is about empowering and encouraging. It’s about fostering respect, resilience, and resourcefulness.

How we show up impacts how our children and students grow up. They have to see it to be it. Children and students who feel loved and supported, seen and acknowledged for exactly who they are, and worthy and capable of achieving their dreams become leaders, not of tomorrow, but today.

Embrace your inner rock star and listen in to Hal Bowman’s Teach Like a Rock Star podcast as we discuss how Learn Play Grow is reimagining education and shifting the narrative on education and leadership.
