Birthday Learning Party

It’s my birthday, and this is how I party! Play, literacy, creativity, and motor fun can add up to a sibling team building birthday celebration!

The birthday girl led story time for her siblings. They read “Have You Filled a Bucket Today,” a book that illustrates how we all have emotional “buckets.” Kindness, support, and positivity fill our buckets. Hurtful words and actions and negativity spill our buckets.  We discussed our own emotional “buckets” and what fills ours and spills ours.

We made learning visible and tangible by using our creativity to decorate our own “buckets.” Siblings shared supplies and took turns asking for and offering help with creativity and fine motor skills. Then we wrote notes to fill each other’s buckets. Their ideas and words to each other were extraordinary! Seeing learn, play, and grow together filled my bucket and their parents’ for sure!
